05th December 2025

The Department of MBA, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a seminar on “Evolving IPR Landscape in India: Safeguarding Startups Against Legal Risks and Frauds,” delivered by Smt. Lakshmi Polaki, Senior Advocate, Tiptur. The session focused on the growing importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the innovation and startup ecosystem, highlighting how protecting patents, trademarks, copyrights, business models, and confidential information has become crucial for entrepreneurial success. The speaker emphasized that while innovation and product development are vital, startups commonly face legal pitfalls such as idea theft, lack of documentation, and disputes over ownership; hence, early registration of intellectual property, properly drafted agreements with co-founders, investors, partners, mentors, and employees, and non-disclosure and confidentiality measures are essential precautions. Real case examples of legal frauds and conflicts in Indian startups were discussed to make participants aware of the risks and the need for compliance. The seminar empowered students and aspiring entrepreneurs with practical insights into building legally secure and innovation-driven ventures.
